We recognize that achieving work-life balance in tourism can be challenging for two main reasons: seasonality, with destinations like Japan or Patagonia experiencing heavy workload spikes during high season, and the unpredictable nature of emergencies such as strikes, flight cancellations, or political events that can suddenly require extra effort. In theory, feedback sounds easy, but in practice, it’s one of the hardest things to master. During my management training, I was surprised that feedback was the most discussed topic—only when I had to apply it did I realize why. Sometimes, feedback gets reduced to a simple thank you, but true feedback is about highlighting behaviors and their impact on others, the team, and our customers, both positive and negative. As a manager, I’m expected to give constant, concrete feedback. It’s a real challenge, but it’s absolutely worth pursuing.

Peer feedback is essential, even though it’s not always easy. Managers naturally give a lot of feedback to their teams, but what’s even more powerful is feedback between peers. That’s why, in HR, we actively encourage peer-to-peer feedback across Ventura. It takes courage for our vMembers to share honest input with each other, but it truly works and proves that we have a culture of trust where people feel safe to give and receive feedback openly.
Our culture thrives on transparency. Open communication and daily information sharing help every vMember stay aligned, empowered, and connected.
Our yearly offsite has been a cornerstone of Ventura TRAVEL’s remote company culture since 2012, when we held our very first offsite in Costa Rica. While it’s a lot of fun, it’s also essential for building strong connections and effective collaboration in a distributed team. Every year, at least 50 vMembers are selected to join the two-week offsite in a new location, with spots determined by a game. If we meet our company goals, everyone is invited! The offsite is carefully planned and budgeted, with a clear business rationale, and aims to include all vMembers, including freelancers. It’s a unique opportunity to align on strategy, strengthen relationships, and celebrate our achievements together—making remote work truly work.
